On Saturday Cornholme residents were treated to a sumptuous Mad Hatters Tea Party hosted by Cornholme Community Project.
Guests enjoyed music from local swing band Lunar Coup, strolling street theatre performances and played some enthusiastic games. Volunteers pulled together to serve mountains of tea, sandwiches and cake at the high tea table. Proceedings were over seen by the Queen of Hearts, played superbly by actress Mary O’Neill. Generous prizes for the Best Hat competition were donated by Porcus Rare Breed Pork, The Bear Co-operative Trading Co, the Bread Man and local jam and honey makers.
As dusk fell local architect and planner Ivor Dibble treated his neighbours to a unique illumination display. “The Cornholme Beacon” and fireworks were a fitting spectacle to finish the day’s celebrations.
The whole event was cooked up by CCP volunteer, Sonya Moorhead who said: “I am so pleased, the afternoon was a real team effort. “I can’t thank everyone enough who chipped in their time, skills and enthusiasm. The food was lovely, the decorations were beautiful and dispite the cool weather there was a great party atmosphere. Cornholmers are entrepreneurial, talented and incredibly generous.”
Special thanks must go to Vale Baptist Church for accommodating the event, and The Diamond Jubilee Fund.
